Elocon is a topical corticosteroid. It interferes with the natural body mechanisms that produce rash, itching or inflammation.

Used to treat itchy rashes and other inflammatory skin conditions.
Apply thin film of cream or ointment, or a few drops of lotion to affected area. Keep out of eyes. Do not cover with a bandage, tight diaper, plastic pants, or any other airtight dressing; and do not use longer than doctor prescribes to avoid absorption through the skin into the bloodstream. Do not use for conditions Elocon is not specifically prescribed for.
- Usual adult dose: apply one time per day.
- Usual child dose: limit use — steroid use over a prolonged period may interfere with growth and development in children.
- Missed dose: apply as soon as possible, unless almost time for next dose. In that case, do not take missed dose, go back to regular schedule.
Elocon Side Effects
long-term use may cause Cushing’s syndrome (moon face, weight gain, high blood pressure, emotional disturbances, growth of facial hair in women). May be serious if left untreated. Cushing’s syndrome may also lead to diabetes mel-litus. If you suspect an overdose, immediately seek medical attention.
More common side effects: acne-like pimples, allergic skin rash, boils, burning, damaged skin, dryness, excessive hairiness, infected hair follicles, infection of the skin, irritation, itching, light-colored patches on skin, prickly heat, rash around the mouth, skin atrophy and wasting, softening of the skin, stretch marks, tingling or stinging.
No known less common or rare Elocon side effects.
No known Elocon drug interactions.
No known food/other substance interactions.
If pregnant or planning to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Should not be used during pregnancy. May appear in breast milk; could affect a nursing infant.
No special precautions apply to seniors.
Prescribed for children on a limited basis, follow doctor’s instructions carefully.
